2/19 HS Physics update and homework due 2/26

Hi folks,

This week we dove a bit deeper into the concept of energy and work by taking a look at simple machines.  We did a lab were we observed the relationship between force, distance and work as it applies to pulleys.  

By the way, there WILL be a quiz next week.  It's been awhile so I'll give you some tips as to what to study for.  Study the review homework you did two weeks ago.  Some of those old math problems will be on the quiz as well as some questions about Newton's laws, momentum, inertia etc.  Also, study the energy material we've covered so far.  Definition of energy, PE and KE, that wacky roller coaster problem, definition of work etc.  Don't worry about this pulley, simple machine stuff yet.  It will be on an upcoming quiz but not this next one.

Read this website, starting on the introduction page and finishing on the terminology page (just keep clicking through).

Answer the following questions regarding the lab we did this week in class.  I've included an "idealized" data table that should look fairly similar to the data you took in class.  Look very carefully and you should see some fairly clear patterns on the "Work In" side.  (Hint: think inverse relationship….:)  )  (Feel free to check out the answer to #3 if you're not sure you see the relationship.)
