1/29 HS Physics update and homework due 2/5

Hi folks,  To make sure the students really have a full grasp of the concepts we've been working with this year, I gave the students a "Newton's Scavenger Hunt" today where they had to use things in the classroom to exemplify the concepts.  They really worked well taking their knowledge and applying it, in order to show me how each concept worked. I've included the questions below if you want to take a look.  I also included a copy of today's quiz.  It's a great overview of everything we've studied so far this year. Homework for this week is to find a video game, a movie or a book and use it to provide examples of the following concepts. Feel free to have fun with this and if you can find an example of how physics is "wrong" in the movie, game or book, (cough, cough, the most recent Star Wars)  that may be even more fun!  You can use the same or different books, movies, etc. if you wish. 1. Impulse 2. Momentum 3. Impulse causing a momentum ch...

1/22 Physics update and homework due 1/29

Hi folks, Today we took some more time with the concept of how impulse effects momentum and we also explored the concept of conservation of momentum. For homework this week: Read pages 87 - 99 in the text book Do Review Questions 1 - 18 on pages 100 and 101 Do Plug and Chug questions 1 - 4 on page 101. Answers are included. BTW we WILL have a quiz next week so be prepared to answer questions on impulse, momentum and conservation of momentum.  Also, be sure you know how to work with our momentum problems and the free body diagrams with numbers. Hi folks, Today we covered Newton's 3rd law which is one of the tougher laws to really fully understand. For homework this week read pages 74 to 82.   Do Questions 1 - 14 on page 83  (Answers included) Also, do the enclosed pdf.

1/8 Physics update and homework due 1/15

Hi folks, In class today, we got into a new concept of free body diagrams. Free body diagrams help to analyze the different forces on objects in order to determine the net force and acceleration of those objects. I'm taking us a little deeper than the book goes on this subject so homework this week is to read the following web pages http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/newtlaws/Lesson-2/Drawing-Free-Body-Diagrams http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/newtlaws/Lesson-2/Determining-the-Net-Force I would highly recommend taking a look at the problems and the solutions on each one of these pages. Also, do the interactives on this page http://www.physicsclassroom.com/Physics-Interactives/Newtons-Laws/Free-Body-Diagrams/Free-Body-Diagram-Interactive . The page is a little clumsy, but with a bit of patience hopefully you'll get the hang of it. When you get the answer, write down the force body diagram on a separate piece of paper to hand in. Occasionally folk...
