12/4 HS Physics class and homework due 12/11
Hi folks,
This week we did a bit of review and then dove into another fairly complex lab. Today the students needed to use all the information we've gathered this year in order to do a lab where they found the resultant velocity of Hot Wheels car as it jumped a ramp.
For homework this week,
Read pages 28 - 32 in the Conceptual Physics text book.
Do the exercise on page 32.
Do plug and chug questions # 1 - 5 on page 41
Do think and explain questions 1 - 2 on page 41
Do Think and Solve questions 1 - 6 on page 42.
Answers below.
Also: Do the enclosed .pdf.
Extra Credit Possibility!!!!!!
For extra credit, let's take today's lab to the real world! Use these videos to calculate the vertical velocity, horizontal velocity, resultant velocity and find the acceleration that the car had to have by the time it left the ramp. The car travels 332 ft. Please show ALL #'s and calculations so that I can check your math.
ANSWERS!
Plug and Chug
1. 250 km/h 150 km/h
2. 175 km/h
3. 141.4 km/h
4. 70.71
5. 5
Think and Explain
1. 9 1
2. You move faster, take a look at the vectors. :)
Think and Solve
1. a. 10
b. 10 NW
2. 200
3. 5 m/s
4 1.25m
5. 30 m/s
6. 250m Don't get fooled by the wording on this. It's just a typical type of these problems. Find out how long it's going to take to hit the ground and then find out how far it travels in that time.
